World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. item upgrading bonuses such as crit chance and PvE damage.
If the weapon's upgrade template is %, it will gain an additional 3% of the previous attack damage each time it is upgraded.
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level increases.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons, and trinkets to provide an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. These can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be used on equipment that has a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue level before a component can be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it's applied to (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players create stronger versions with less upgrade crystals than they need to reach the same level using standard methods.
A 'boost' upgrade can alter the attack or defence characteristics of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player completes the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or by purchasing them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.
Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher tier version of the item will be dropped at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue improving their equipment, even if they're unsure of how much it will increase after a future reset.
The process of upgrading an item can be expensive, and it is possible that the item will be obsolete, or even break, if the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the chance of failure. Certain upgrades also provide a bonus if they are reinserted.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to improve the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs boost the power of all nodes in the area around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as you can to level 15.
In the endgame you'll find that the most effective way to upgrade your equipment is to use Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded directly to level 15 and provide significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to reach higher nodes faster.
The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced, however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and re-placed without any restrictions. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and rebuilt with the aid of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.
Each Glyph has a particular range of values it can improve a statistic by, and the value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.
Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of an Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools and also during Faction Crypt Raids. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned, you will be able to claim the upgrade and receive its additional bonuses.
When a player upgrades an item to a higher level, the original item is replaced by a new item of the same kind. This means that the same armor piece will become the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item will also come with a bonus of its own. This can be a downside since the item may be more expensive even if you don't need it.
If the player has enough tokens they can reroll item upgrade s. This causes the item to be traded for a new one, with an initial level and a different set of bonus bonuses. This is useful for certain items, however it shouldn't be done regularly, as it can use up many resources.
Certain upgrades can increase their value and allow players to modify their gear. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player repeatedly enters and exits water (or is able to swim like dolphins). The item can be upgraded several times, increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is extremely important in PvP. A properly rolled version can be worth as much as 50x the value of the unupgraded counterpart.
Requirements
The ability to upgrade item s allows players to upgrade the level of their equippable equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets above ilvl 385--by providing the appropriate currency and items to an NPC that upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces improve the strength of their base defense and upgrades to weapon items increase the damage they deal as well as the required strength and dexterity.
All items can be upgraded up to five times, except for hero gear that can be upgraded with eight upgrades. Each time you upgrade an object it is at risk of failing. The rate of failure increases when you exceed the maximum number. If an item isn't upgraded the experience bar in its growth bar will reset to zero. Hero grade items will come with an incredibly lower cost for each upgrade.
